Opening for Fox & Coyote: James Lewis and the Jack Pines. Fox & Coyote Headlining at 8 pm in celebration of the release of their newest album Fox & Coyote is like a singer-songwriter love song met a really big amp. It's the folk rock project of songwriters Ryan Evans and Jonathan Harms and features guitar, banjo, cello, bass, and drums. The band's live set juxtaposes quiet and loud, expected and jarring -- and showcases Ryan and Jonathan's far-reaching musical interests in their own brand of folk-infused indie rock.
With “Deal,” Fox & Coyote puts their bigger, more rock-based sound on full display. The track contrasts sparse rhythmic textures with raging guitar solos and thick crescendos of strings and drums. While the band continues to show their finely crafted songwriting, “Deal” hints at the darker, more fierce tone of their upcoming full-length, due in 2018.
“I wrote the lyrics to ‘Deal’ never intending to share them. I felt trapped in a relationship with a good person – which was frustrating, terrifying, and stressful. My mind was weighed down with guilt. It’s risky to share frustrations and anger when you know that depression warps all emotional responses. But I continue to discover that sharing your emotions is a better bet in the long run. After all, good art (and good relationships) only comes when you’re honest.” –Jonathan Harms, songwriter
