Potter's Pasties

Potter's Pasties

One of the big myths about England is the one that says the food is terrible.

Yes, it’s true that you can’t really find a cold glass of water in the UK, and it helps to really love peas, but to just dismiss the culinary offerings of an entire country (or four united ones, even) is folly. And wrong. And kind of ignorant.

And it is clearly the work of someone who has never eaten a pastie.

First of all, they’re pronounced pă-stees, and secondly, they’re awesome. Potter’s Pasties, the finest maker of pasties in the Upper Midwest, will be at Imminent Brewing to show you just how good these things are.

These are traditional puff pastry wrapped pies with ingredients like minced beef, onions, potatoes and gravy, or braised pork, apples, onions and coriander. Potter’s has created some of their own unique offerings, as well with Thai ingredients, or veggie offerings.

Potter’s Pasties has long been considered among the best of the Twin Cities food trucks. We can’t wait to have them parked at Imminent Brewing!

Jon Manners

Jon Manners has been playing guitar since 1957. An opening act for The Lovin’ Spoonful, he was discovered in the early 70’s by Andrew Loog Oldham, impresario and producer of The Rolling Stones. With Oldham producing, Manners recorded for the Rare Earth label, a subsidiary of Motown but the hit single never materialized. Now, playing solo, he brings his brand of percussive blues-edged roots-rock to the stage.

TLA- Live Jazz Music

TLA is the combination of three top tier Twin Cities jazz players who happen to have deep connections to Northfield. Bassist Kevin Clements taught jazz bass at Carleton College for years when he wasn’t flying as a commercial pilot or gigging with folks like Rosemary Clooney, Robert Goulet or any number of Twin Cities jazz greats. Like wise drummer Eric Hanson has been a mainstay in the Twin Cities jazz scene for decades. Dave Hagedorn is among the most in-demand vibes (the vibraphone is that thing that looks like a xylophone) players in the country, having played with some of the most prestigious musicians and organizations in music from Brian Setzer and Phil Hey to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. These three guys will come together at Imminent Brewing on Sunday afternoon to help you wind down your weekend with some cool jazz and a couple relaxing pints.

Reclaim your Power, hosted by the Sierra Club

Northfield has an opportunity to ensure Minnesota makes a just and equitable transition to 100% clean energy as soon as possible. Decades of burning dirty fossil fuels and years of fracked gas have worsened our climate and our health. We can’t wait longer to get to 100% clean energy because communities and ecosystems are suffering today.

Xcel Energy, largest energy utility in the state, is developing a 15 year energy plan for Minnesota. We believe all Xcel customers should help shape this plan and determine where our energy will come from. Join us on September 17th to reclaim our power as Xcel customers and weigh in on its plan for our energy future.

We want to hear your vision for what energy could look like in your community, and take actions to make those visions a reality. The Sierra Club envisions a future where Xcel commits to achieving fossil fuel free energy by 2030, articulates a path to 100% renewable energy, fully funds and supports community and worker transition, and ensures equitable access to all of clean energy benefits. What’s your vision?

Don’t miss out on this important conversation about clean energy! Your presence is crucial to show Xcel Energy that the community and its customers are invested in a clean and equitable future.

All ages welcome!

Fred the Bear

The music and craft beverage festival continues.

On the outdoor stage at Armory Square: Fred the Bear is an alt-rock band known for their rich harmonies, emotive dynamics and original songs. FTB’s music reflects on life's promises and disappointments through personal crafted lyrics and driving rhythms.  Mixed within their originals is a blend of music from other Midwest artists, currently touring groups and classic bands.

Their name and their drive for a great live sound is a tribute to Bruce "Fred the Bear" Eschler.  At his bar, the "Bear's Den", you’d always get a stiff drink and when the music was crankin', you were in for a heck of a night.  So we play tribute to the man who provided us with our first glimpse into the energy of live music .... Fred the Bear.

Matt Arthur & the Bratlanders

TOWNIE NIGHT continues at Armory Square's NEW outdoor stage! Matt Arthur is a fiercely contrarian Southern Minnesota blind man with a voice that calls to mind Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, and John Darnielle. Matt's band, The Bratlanders, is led by identically-bearded twins, and the group’s rootsy sound is a mix of rustic folk, old-time blues, cosmic country, indie dirges, and bombastic anthems. Their songs would shuffle sweetly through a playlist packed with early-70s Stones, Crazy Horse-era Neil Young, and more recent offerings from Sturgill Simpson and the Drive By Truckers.
