(3) Read your poem at the open mic poetry event at Imminent Brewing on Saturday, September 30, starting at 4pm

Matt Arthur & the Bratlanders

Join us this Sunday and every other Sunday thereafter for awhile for an early-evening, family-friendly downtown Northfield residency at Imminent Brewing

Look for lots of surprises in upcoming sessions: Special guests! Unfinished songs! Bizarre covers of beloved hits! More special guests!

Come on down & have supper with us while we do our thing in the background!

Matt Arthur: Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
Don Bratland: Lead Guitar, Harmonica
Doug Bratland: Bass Guitar
Joel Beithon: Drums & Percussion

MATT ARTHUR is a fiercely contrarian Southern Minnesota blind man with a voice that calls to mind Johnny Cash, John Darnielle, and Nick Cave.

THE BAND is led by identically-bearded twins, and the group’s rootsy sound is an amalgamation of rustic folk, old-time blues, early country-western, southern rock, indie dirges, and bombastic anthems.

THE SONGS would shuffle sweetly through a playlist packed with early-70s Stones, Crazy Horse-era Neil Young, and more recent offerings from Deer Tick and the Drive By Truckers.

THE ALBUM, "Heavy On My Mind," is awash in vintage Hammond organ, and the lean core of the band is fleshed out with pedal steel, barrelhouse piano, cello, violin, harmonium, and haunting harmony vocals.

Mad Pipes Jazz

Doug and Barb met while helping design and produce annual fund raising events for a local theater.  The performances were huge hits with audiences, giving the duo the idea to collaborate.  It seemed natural, since they already knew hundreds of the same songs, and both were excited to learn new material and expand their styles.  Listen for shadings of jazz, pop, folk, country, swing and rock.  It's all in there, ranging from sweet and smooth to raunchy fun.

Think "lounge music" with a flair.

Mad Pipes is the name and this duo is ready to dabble!

Northfield Science Café - C.O.W.S.

What is Science Café?

Our goal is to create an informal, dynamic atmosphere that encourages all participants to feel comfortable asking questions or volunteering ideas. Science Café provide mutual learning between scientists and non-scientists. Scientists, broadly defined in our eyes, gain familiarity with different perspectives, learn to describe research in accessible language, and develop or improve civic engagement skills. Scientists also benefit by learning how to make their work relevant to and accessible by society. The lay public benefits by taking part in a dialogue about the impact of science on daily life, and potentially learning about scientific concepts that may lead to more informed decisions in their daily lives, whether it be in making voting decisions, business decisions, or sharing information with others.

Matthew Griswold

Singer/songwriter Matthew Griswold has a style that can be reminiscent of a howling Tom Waits at times and an introspective Bruce Springsteen at others. Mostly though, his style reflects a rare combination of sincerity, wisdom and passion focused through some really amazing songs. Griswold’s performances are rugged, riveting, bone-shaking, and full of grit and soul from a man who has seen the worst of humanity but still is able to find hope. He confidently leaves his crowds cradled in subtleties but rocked with an undeniable presence.

Treats by T - food vendor

A local husband and wife team. What's unique about their meatball sliders is that Imminent Brewing gave the spent grain to the farm, which the cows ate, which was turned into beef, which Treats by T uses for meatballs which are covered  in their delicious ghost pepper sauce from peppers grown in their garden.  We are excited to see what other items they bring next time!

Also available are all natural dog treats using spent grain from Imminent Brewing for your furry family member.

Fred the Bear

Fred the Bear is an alt-rock band known for their rich harmonies, emotive dynamics and original songs. FTB’s music reflects on life's promises and disappointments through personal crafted lyrics and driving rhythms.  Mixed within their originals is a blend of music from other Midwest artists, currently touring groups and classic bands.

Their name and their drive for a great live sound is a tribute to Bruce "Fred the Bear" Eschler.  At his bar, the "Bear's Den", you’d always get a stiff drink and when the music was crankin', you were in for a heck of a night.  So we play tribute to the man who provided us with our first glimpse into the energy of live music .... Fred the Bear.

Big Dixie Swingers

The roots of western swing can be found in the titles of early record catalogues: race and hillbilly. Either black or white, it was the sound of rural America hearing itself for the first time. Interpreting the hits of the day, or offering a bit of what they had to say. I call it "the treatment." Making any damn thing as danceable and fun as you were able. And it still happens in New Orleans to this day. You can hear talented musicians on every corner, happily re-inventing the wheel.

Mark Kreitzer

Mark Kreitzer

Mark Kreitzer is a unique solo performer. Just the fact that he performs on guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle sets him apart, but add to that his original bluegrass, jazz, folk and country songs, and he stands in a very elite group of musicians. A typical show might have songs from the Beatles, James Taylor, Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubb and Tom Paxton, flavored liberally with fiddle tunes from Ireland, Canada and America.
