TLA- Live Jazz Music

TLA is the combination of three top tier Twin Cities jazz players who happen to have deep connections to Northfield. Bassist Kevin Clements taught jazz bass at Carleton College for years when he wasn’t flying as a commercial pilot or gigging with folks like Rosemary Clooney, Robert Goulet or any number of Twin Cities jazz greats. Like wise drummer Eric Hanson has been a mainstay in the Twin Cities jazz scene for decades. Dave Hagedorn is among the most in-demand vibes (the vibraphone is that thing that looks like a xylophone) players in the country, having played with some of the most prestigious musicians and organizations in music from Brian Setzer and Phil Hey to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. These three guys will come together at Imminent Brewing on Sunday afternoon to help you wind down your weekend with some cool jazz and a couple relaxing pints.

Potter's Pasties

One of the big myths about England is the one that says the food is terrible.

Yes, it’s true that you can’t really find a cold glass of water in the UK, and it helps to really love peas, but to just dismiss the culinary offerings of an entire country (or four united ones, even) is folly. And wrong. And kind of ignorant.

And it is clearly the work of someone who has never eaten a pastie.

First of all, they’re pronounced pă-stees, and secondly, they’re awesome. Potter’s Pasties, the finest maker of pasties in the Upper Midwest, will be at Imminent Brewing to show you just how good these things are.

These are traditional puff pastry wrapped pies with ingredients like minced beef, onions, potatoes and gravy, or braised pork, apples, onions and coriander. Potter’s has created some of their own unique offerings, as well with Thai ingredients, or veggie offerings.

Potter’s Pasties has long been considered among the best of the Twin Cities food trucks. We can’t wait to have them parked at Imminent Brewing!

The Frothy band
Jul
28
7:00 PM19:00

The Frothy band

The Frothy Band will try to give you a fun night out at the pub by combining two important aspects of Irish culture: a fine beer (such as that found at Imminent Brewing) combined with energetic acoustic Irish music. Imagine yourself out for a pint in a small Irish village. You have a have a great beer on the bar in front of you. Next to you there’s a new friend you’ve never seen before discussing who-knows-what in a barely understandable version of what may be English, and in the corner a ragtag menagerie starts to pull instruments out of well-worn cases. When they start attempting to tune you think maybe it’s time to go. When they start playing you think maybe it’s time to order another pint and stay.

The Frothy Band is composed of some of the liveliest musicians on the Minnesota Irish session scene: Laura MacKenzie (flute, maybe whistle, perhaps the odd song), Matt Wehling (mandolin), Mary Vanorny (fiddle), Paul Wehling (Irish bouzouki), and Tom Klein (the mysterious Irish Uilleann pipes). Cumulatively they have over 163 and two thirds years of experience playing Irish music all over the world. But their hectic touring schedules make it hard for them to all get together in the same room, which makes each of their gigs extra special for them.

About the name: On the one hand “Frothy” refers to the fine bit of head found on a well-poured pint, but it’s also a nod to one of the seminal bands of traditional Irish music, the Bothy Band. For Irish music aficionados “of a certain age,” The Bothy Band were the Beatles of Irish music, the original inspiration to pick up instruments and give Irish music a go. The Frothy Band looks back at that time in their lives when the music was new and recaptures the energy and fun of playing tunes for the sake of playing tunes, enjoying each other’s company, and not because they want to sell a CDs at the break or make it big. It’s just a night at the pub with friends, a few tunes, and a nice pint.

Matt Arthur & the Bratlanders

Matt Arthur is a fiercely contrarian Southern Minnesota blind man with a voice that calls to mind Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, and John Darnielle.Matt's band, The Bratlanders, is led by identically-bearded twins, and the group’s rootsy sound is a mix of rustic folk, old-time blues, cosmic country, indie dirges, and bombastic anthems.Their songs would shuffle sweetly through a playlist packed with early-70s Stones, Crazy Horse-era Neil Young, and more recent offerings from Sturgill Simpson and the Drive By Truckers.

With Oldham producing, Manners recorded for the Rare Earth label, a subsidiary of Motown but the hit single never materialized. Now, playing solo, he brings his brand of percussive blues-edged roots-rock to the stage.

Fred the Bear

Fred the Bear is an alt-rock band known for their rich harmonies, emotive dynamics and original songs. FTB’s music reflects on life's promises and disappointments through personal crafted lyrics and driving rhythms.  Mixed within their originals is a blend of music from other Midwest artists, currently touring groups and classic bands.

Their name and their drive for a great live sound is a tribute to Bruce "Fred the Bear" Eschler.  At his bar, the "Bear's Den", you’d always get a stiff drink and when the music was crankin', you were in for a heck of a night.  So we play tribute to the man who provided us with our first glimpse into the energy of live music .... Fred the Bear.  Band Members include: Ray Coudret, Beth Kanzelman, Bob Kanzelman and Jerry Spencer

Nip 'n' Tuck

Nip 'n' Tuck

Nip ‘n’ Tuck was conceived in 1976 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and consisted of Gary Rue (guitar/vocal), Jeff Willkomm, bass/vocal), and Tilly (drums/vocal). The group was heavily influenced by pop idols of the time (Todd Rundgren, The Raspberries, Steely Dan, Edgar Winter) and termed a ‘melodic rock band’ by the local press (with which the band agreed).

They have all confessed that this humble group of musicians are also the best of friends, and after looking at their careers in their respective rear view mirrors, they've decided to give it another go, purely for the joy of playing music together.

They have evolved into a dedicated core trio (with occasional auxiliary assistance) whose desire is to deliver music that is by degrees, music for the sake of music!
